bagulhodoido Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 Hi everybody! I'm using Autocad 2011 on my laptop and have been experiencing some performance issues. It happens on some specific events, like when I am trying to draw anything. I am using the gpu driver the last driver developed by HP, with the Switchable Graphics and stuff. Does anyone know why is that happening? My laptop specs are: Processor Intel Core I7-2630QM 2.00 Ghz 8,00 gb RAM ddr 1333 mhz GPU Radeon 6770m HD Thanks for your attention Quote
tzframpton Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 Can you explain more in detail what type of performance issues you're experiencing? Your computer specs are more than enough for even some heavy 3D designing. Quote
bagulhodoido Posted June 15, 2011 Author Posted June 15, 2011 (edited) It's like my fps goes down, I can't really describe it. I run the line command and, before I click to determinate the first point, the crosshair loses its smoothness. It jumps from point to point like the fps were really low. The line command is just an example. I happens on all sort of commands. Edited June 15, 2011 by bagulhodoido Quote
ReMark Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 I think it is the fact that your laptop incorporates a GPU and not a dedicated graphics card. Quote
bagulhodoido Posted June 15, 2011 Author Posted June 15, 2011 What do you mean by that? The 6770m is a dedicated card. Quote
ReMark Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 Really? I stand corrected then. Check to see that your have hardware acceleration disabled in 3Dconfig then. Quote
bagulhodoido Posted June 15, 2011 Author Posted June 15, 2011 (edited) The hardware acceleration must be ON right? It happen on pretty much every project. Sooner, I was workin on a regular architectonic project, can't really check the drawing size right now, but it's not that big, so, I think that wouldn't be the problem. Here's the TUNE LOG that the 3dconfig create. ReMark Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 I would set it to OFF and see if there is any difference. Quote
bagulhodoido Posted June 15, 2011 Author Posted June 15, 2011 (edited) On or off, it looks the same. Perhaps it's not reconizing my GPU although the TuneLog says it does. Edited June 16, 2011 by bagulhodoido Quote

bagulhodoido Posted June 16, 2011 Author Posted June 16, 2011 I have tried some of the "reasonable" solutions. But haven't worked at all. I suspect that it's a driver issue. Aparently my GPU is not reconized by Autodesk yet, so, maybe it's not fully supported. Got to wait until autodesk develop something that work with my GPU. Quote
Glen1980 Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 I have used that list in the past. The virtual memory and turning off anything that looks pretty in windows seem the best performance enhancers on my machine. Make the GUI look like win 95 but helped me a great deal. Quote
bagulhodoido Posted June 16, 2011 Author Posted June 16, 2011 I suppose it could help that way, but that´s not my case. My computer specs should be able to run both AutoCad and Windows 7 visual enhancements real smoothly right? Besides, I use AutoCad where I work as well, and the computer I use there runs AutoCad better then mine does, despite having considerably lower specs. Quote
Glen1980 Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 I use Ubuntu 64 flavour of Linux at home and that runs like a dream, starts up from cold in less than 30 seconds. Win 7 64 on the same machine took 4-5 mins and just reacted slowly until I turned all the nice bits off. It seems to me that the OS designers just try to push the limits of the hardware regardless that the OS has a job to do and other programmes need resources. Quote
ReMark Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 "My computer specs should be able to run both AutoCad and Windows 7 visual enhancements real smoothly right?" Yes, in my opinion, it should. Quote
bagulhodoido Posted June 16, 2011 Author Posted June 16, 2011 Well, the veredict, from what I could gather, is that this has something to do with the GPU driver. The 6770m is sort of a new GPU, launched in the beggining of 2011 and applyed to the HP notebooks only 2 or 3 months ago. The whole Switchable Graphics concept is only crawling, and there are lots of improvements to do yet. It's just a matter of time, at least I hope so. Quote
bagulhodoido Posted June 16, 2011 Author Posted June 16, 2011 --- edit --- So sorry, double posted it. Quote

The point is if you turn the Aero crap off and it makes a huge difference then you have found the problem, if it doesn't help then turn it back on, but it is certainly worth atry. I would rather get work done than look at the eye candy and have AutoCAD run like molasses. I have a pretty decent computer but I can't use the Aero stuff and have AutoCAD run smoothly. irneb Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 Point #40 is another thing you should definitely try. Even though your log shows that it recognized the GPU, it also shows it's not certified. Search on ADesk's site for the latest certified driver for your card - the newest manufacturer drivers sometimes have bugs when running with acad. Quote
