grey489177 Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 First let me apologize if this issue has already been addressed, forums in general confuse me and.or i may have just not looked in the right place. -=-What i am trying to do-=- Make a 3d Glass sphere. -=-What i have done already -=- made a 3d sphere. played around with transparency and opaque options -=- What is the problem -=- No matter how i adjust the opaque or transparency levels, when i render the image it shows up solid and not translucent. Note: I do alot of 3d work with solids so i have fair amount of knowledge already i just never dealt with anything glass like before, its all been mechanical pieces like gears, fans, even a motor once. Thank you for any advice you can shred on this or direction you can point me in to learn more. Quote
JD Mather Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 Apply a translucent material - if you can't figure it out, attach your file here. Quote
ReMark Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Thank you, such a simple solution. Are you being sarcastic or did you actually solve your problem? Quote
grey489177 Posted June 20, 2011 Author Posted June 20, 2011 oh, not sarcastic. It really did solve the issue i was having. Quote

Jack_O'neill Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 I figured out how to make it translucent...major accomplishment for me! Rendering in AutoCAD is a real challenge for me. I can just never get it to turn out quite right. Stuck the sphere in this picture just so I could tell if it was actually translucent. --edit--I guess transparent is more applicable in this case. Whatever, it worked for once! Quote
grey489177 Posted June 20, 2011 Author Posted June 20, 2011 Glad to hear it! Always nice to see that solving one problem solves problems for others aswell. Try making a photo frame with a sheet of glass over it next for practice! Quote
Jack_O'neill Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 I can stumble my way through importing a model to Autodesk's Showcase, and render it there, Comes out halfway decent. In just Autocad though, all I make is a mess! I can draw anything, just can't render it worth a hoot. Quote

Whatever' date=' it worked for once![/quote'] I know how you feel dude. Just when I think I'm getting pretty good doing 3D and the like, I see how some 17 year old did a rendering that makes mine look like a cartoon...and they did it all in just 15 minutes. Sheesh. I recently did an animation and after thinking wow that's pretty cool, I went out on the net and found thousands of other animations that made mine look simple and in no way comparable to these others. Keeps one very humble indeed. Quote
grey489177 Posted June 22, 2011 Author Posted June 22, 2011 Progress, these are some images to show my progress with glass. wow, big images sorry for that. Quote

Jack_O'neill Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 Looks like you figured it out. Glass is doable: Quote
