We save all our drawings as DXF... which is our default. After it saves it always asks if we'd like to save as a DWG, is there a way to turn off that "reminder"?

Thanks,

Kari

May I inquire as to why all your drawings are saved in DXF file format? What types of drawings are these? Do you share these drawings with other firms?

I'm not sure of the specifics, but I believe the program that runs our CNC router deals with dxf.

You should be able to create a macro and use a button to close and automatically answer No. Seems there are no system variables to suppress that I could think of.

If you've set it to save as a dxf in the options dialog box on the "open and save" tab, it shouldn't ask you every time you save the drawing, only when you close it. Or at least, that's how it works in 2010. If it is, that might be a bug to report.

If I understand correctly, that is the problem. You can save as .dfx, but when you go to close the file, you get that pop-up asking if you want to save as .dwg.

As suggested a macro on a button sounds like the way to go.

That's not what the OP said.

This is the message I see after having first done a "save as" to DXF file format then trying to immediately close the drawing. I'm using 2012.

AutoCAD's file format is DWG: DXF is the exchange format only.

Instead of SAVEAS and manually reply, automate with a macro as noted above. As many folks keep suggesting this, are you perhaps not able to do this and need help but shy to ask? If you don't ask no one here will know to add more info for you.

No argument with that. I even said it did it if you closed the drawing. The OP said it did it when the drawing SAVES, not when it closes.

I never said that was what the OP stated.

In his one and only post having to deal with the "save as" aspect the OP wrote...

"After it saves it always asks if we'd like to save as a DWG,...":P

I think what he forgot to say is that when they go to close the drawing THAT'S when they are asked if they want to Save as a DWG.:?

Ahhhhhhhhhhh........Forgetaboutit.

Thats exactly the point. Everybody just assumed that the OP was talking about when the drawng closed. I took it to mean that it did this if the person hit the save button or otherwise saved the drawing, that box was popping up since he clearly stated "after it saves". I thought the person was trying to communicate a problem or some abberation, not complaining about the normal operation of the software.

If we couldn't complain about the normal operation of the software we'd have 50% less to complain about! LOL

I really do find this odd. Sorry, I'm not judging. The "oddness" thought is this: is the dxf format sent to the CNC after every save? I'm guessing no, that in fact you are creating the finished drawing over a period of time and the CNC doesn't receive the DXF until the drawing is complete. By performing all of your work as a drawing it could serves as a means of detecting whether or not the finished file is complete ie: DXF doesn't exist, then the file isn't done.
