tatra4444 Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 hello , i have a problem here, i have two object intersect each other ,when i select one of the object the edges that in the intersect part is hidden! how can i make them visible? i have this problem in autocad 2012 in autocad 2011 there was no problem Quote
nestly Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 I'm pretty sure that's the expected effect in "Shaded with Edges" visual style. Try X-Ray visual style or decrease the opacity on the View Tab / Visual Styles ribbon panel (VSFACEOPACITY) Quote
Patrick Hughes Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 If they are two separate objects there is no intersection although there is a collision because they do in fact intersect. Confused? Two bodies cannot occupy the same space. I think you want to UNION them, then you should see the intersecting lines. But then, I'm confused why it seems to be ok in 2011. Quote
nestly Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 I think this is what the OP is looking for http://www.screencast.com/t/aci5YFXKkZuf Quote
nestly Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 I'm not sure what else you're looking for. The video I made from 2011 looks just like your screencap from 2012 and it makes it pretty clear how to view the hidden edges. If you're trying to select or snap to the intersecting edges of two separate 3D Objects, you can't, that's just a visual representation of the edges, there's no actual geometry there less you union the objects. SLW210 Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 nestly's answer did not do it for you? Some people are not able to view screencast from work. Quote
tatra4444 Posted July 1, 2011 Author Posted July 1, 2011 the page of nestly's is broken(the page cannot be displayed)! Quote
nestly Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 The link doesn't appear to be broken, but I put it on youtube as well. Quote
tatra4444 Posted July 2, 2011 Author Posted July 2, 2011 i open the web page of nestly's from my home ,it work, but it didnt help me,i need a solution Quote
irneb Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 Could you give a screen capture of what shows in 2011 when you select one of the objects. Then another to show how 2012 is different. Perhaps it's just a setting. Quote
irneb Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 Your visual style seems to be different between the 2. The 1st has a visual style of "Shaded with edges" in 2011. The 2nd seems to be something like "Shades of grey". Also you might need to check if the performance tuning is the same on the 2 versions (e.g. something like discard back-faces). Or it could be the XRay visual style with a very close to 100 (not on 100) transparency or "Realistic" with VSEdges set to Facet/Isolines. Open the View tab in the ribbon and play around with the preset visual styles, then adjust the VSEdges (button just under the VS drop-down - looks like a ball with longitude lines on it). Or open the VisualStyles palette (just type that word, or click the down-right arrow of the VisualStyles group on the view panel of the ribbon, or Menubar: View-->Visual Styles-->Visual Style Manager...). Then adjust stuff for the "standard" styles to suit your need. E.g. to get those cutting lines to show: about 7th from bottom is the Intersection Lines --> Show (Yes/No). Quote

(notice that there are no mid-grips on the edges of the selected solid 2nd screencap). This is 2011 Shaded with Edges + VSFACEOPACITY = 98 Edited July 3, 2011 by nestly Quote
irneb Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 Yes and selecting using VS "Shade with edges" makes a slightly different highlight on my Vanilla 2011 as well: Notice that the base of the bottom cube is also highlighted. But that might be due to the way I created it (i.e. rectangle & extrude). Quote
tatra4444 Posted July 4, 2011 Author Posted July 4, 2011 with my thanks for all the replies, but no one solve my solution, need more help and more answers,(please try to make two boxes like what i did on autocad 2012 and see what i mean) Quote
nestly Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 Have you actually tried turning on Opacity control? I just installed 2012 and as far as I can tell, the visual styles are the same as they were in 2011. I do not believe your 2nd screencap in Post #13 is from AutoCAD2011 because of the absence of midpoint grips on the selected 3D solid. Even if it is 2011, that IS NOT the default "Shaded with Edges" Visual style. I did a video that toggles back and forth between AutoCAD 2012 and each of your screencaps showing how to achieve each effect. Beyond that, perhaps change VSOBSCUREDEDGES and/or VSOCCLUDEDEDGES ? http://www.screencast.com/t/O1Z9hl1DAzu Quote
tatra4444 Posted July 5, 2011 Author Posted July 5, 2011 Why do i have to change opacity in 2012 ,while in 2011 i do not touch the opacity and get the result i want .when i change the opacity in 2012 for objects with differant color ,it looks very bad Quote
irneb Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 Exactly. If you want the intersection edges to display you need to have a VS set to something like "Shade with edges" or turn on the "Cutting edges" in the VisualStyles palette. In both 2011 & 2012 (when you do this) only the visible edges of a solid gets highlighted when you select it (except for that bottom - which is the originating entity, i.e. closed polyline). If you need all the edges to highlight then you need to turn on opacity as nestly showed you. You could create your own new visual style (say using the XRay one) and then modify it to suit your needs exactly (cutting edges, obscured edges, opacity, etc.). Then you can simply select that one to have it displayed - no need to adjust settings every time. BTW, that 2nd capture in post #13 looks a lot more like 2008: Quote
