So I am Loving the use of Attout and Attin for updating block attributes from a spread sheet...

BACKGROUND READ ON FOR QUESTION:

Currently I am producing drawings with names on desks. I have created a block with the attributes of Name and desk.

I am currently updating the drawings blocks so that I can input an excel spreadsheet with over 1500 names into the drawing using Attin (changed the .xls to .txt and roberts your mothers brother)

Unfortunately the spreadsheets I have been given have the name as one field. i.e name: Joe Bloggs, Ideally I would have the information as First Name: Joe last name: Bloggs and create two associated attributes which would enable a nicely displayed block..

QUESTION HERE:

My question is this.. is there any way that I can format the block so that the attribute displays as a multi line..

e.g.

Joe

Bloggs

not

Joe Bloggs.

I know I can go into each attribute (although trying to remember that command "A something Edit" I think) and edit it like a piece of txt. I would rather not have to go and do that if there is another work around..

So any ideas???

Firstly you can split the name into two varaibles using the space look here for a LEE mac routine.

2nd make the block have two attributes and then just populate accordingly lots of examples of excel to block.

3rd not sure here but attribute as mtext but have to create mtext as two lines. look back at 1st option

I have looked for a lsp that might split the txt into variables via spaces but have drawn a blank.

I think in this instance its a llot of "attipedit" with returns and a lesson learned..

Next time I will add in a second column for surnames which will make this whole process VERY quick.. Thanks for the reply.

I wish I could crack open Lee macs head and scoop out his programming knowledge and bottle it..

OK just as an update incase any one else has this problem..

As part of Excel there is a command that can be found under the "Data" menu this command is called "Text to colums" and will split the text by a deliminator (in this case the space) but this can be a comma or tab etc.

So Problem sorted.
