jmaliawco Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Why so slow - windows 7, 64-bit machine. I try (for example) a command like draw order or I try stretching xclip boundaries and i get the famous "non-responding" message for a minute or two, then the command is complete. I tried decreasing the drawing size by using an xref (1,159 KB in size) which is an xref of a drawing that was about 7MB Suggestions please? Quote
SLW210 Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Have Audited and/or Purged your drawing? Do you have Properties Palette open? What are your computer specifications? Turn off all your "Bells & Whistles" for Windows 7 and AutoCAD. Quote
jmaliawco Posted July 18, 2011 Author Posted July 18, 2011 Cool thanks I have Audited and purged. Computer has 8 GB of Ram - 64 Bit Intel ® Core 2 Duo - E8400 @ 3.00GHz Not sure how to disable the Properties palette Quote
jmaliawco Posted July 18, 2011 Author Posted July 18, 2011 The guy next to me is running 32-bit and tried running the same commands on the same drawing file which worked in a split second with no hang ups. Quote
ReMark Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Yes it is the company network Maybe it has something to do with your network connection or the installation of the software itself. When did the problem first occur? It also could be that AutoCAD is searching for something and is having trouble finding it thus the delay. Quote
jmaliawco Posted July 18, 2011 Author Posted July 18, 2011 So it was occurring about 2 months ago when i was using a 32-bit Windows XP machine. We knew we were going to be working on a large project for an extended period of time and that I may need a 64-bit windows 7. So that is what they got for me. Since then its been about the same. Therefore i can see why you mention a network, software, or CAD searching issue. I am leaning towards a CAD searching issue, or software issue. I do not believe it is network related as I am on the same network as the guy next to me who like i mentioned before is using 32-bit and his machine is working the same drawing lightning fast. Quote
ReMark Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 You had the same basic problem on your previous computer? Do you have problems with any other drawings you edit or is it confined to just this particular drawing? Quote
jmaliawco Posted July 18, 2011 Author Posted July 18, 2011 Yes, same problem on previous. I know others in the office are using the same file for an xref and may be using version 2010. Could that mess with the file if they are working in 10 but only xreffing the file? Too funny, it is only this drawing and the drawing that is xref'd in. I think I am going to save as to my desktop - rename and explode/purge/audit and try that. I can get by with this for a while if it works. But in the meantime, i still would like to know whats going with this file, and why it works fine on the the machine next to mine. Quote
ReMark Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Doesn't it strike you as very strange that... 1. The problem is only with this one drawing. 2. You are the only person who is experiencing the problem. 3. The problem did not go away when you got a new computer. Have you given any thought to going into retail? LOL Quote
CyberAngel Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 In lieu of a better idea, you might check the annotation scale list. Delete what you're not using. Quote
jmaliawco Posted July 18, 2011 Author Posted July 18, 2011 HA! That is too funny I was in retail before this but was the only one who could never get the chips on the rack up fast enough. Quote
SLW210 Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Maybe you are in a time delayed dimension. AKA The Twilight Zone. Quote
Organic Posted July 19, 2011 Posted July 19, 2011 If you are getting plotstyle paths etc (in the file support directorys in the options) from a server located in another city or country, while the user next to you is using the local office server, that could cause the problem. Quote
