CalypsoArt Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 I do all my 3D modeling in Sketchup, and 2d drawings in AC. Perusing our new 2012 Architecture I decided to give the 3D tools a try. It would be great to do 2D & 3D in the same program. I did a simple drawing where I used the wall tool and and inserted a door. I selected the objects in plan view and ran the flatshot command. I got the "There are no solids or surfaces that can be projected." result. I assumed I could just use these tools, wall, door, windows etc, then flat shot for a 2d drawing for plan and elevation views to dimension. Is this not the case. Is it that these tools do not create the right kind of 3d to use Flatshot? Quote
irneb Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 You don't need the flatshot for that. In ACA the plan is already shown in 2D - it's more like a set of linked views than simply a cut through the 3d model. The plan/section is like a live flatshot already, yet a 2-way live to the 3d model, that's the "beauty" behind using ACA (or even better Revit). The FlatShot / SolProf commands are only intended to convert a 3dView to its 2D linework. You could go and "exportlayout" to have the entire layout (incl. title block) on a DWG's model space, but to me that's a bit of useless . If you want to convert the "walls", "doors", etc. to just be normal lines, look at the ExportToAutoCAD command. Though remember, as soon as you do that they become "dumb" linework. Quote
CalypsoArt Posted July 28, 2011 Author Posted July 28, 2011 ExportToAutoCad is exactly what I was looking for at this point. Quote
