TigerDesign Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 I am looking for some efficient ways to get idw's into dwg's, directly transferring standards, layers, etc... My goal is generate drawings in Inventor and output them into *.dwgs which can then be edited readily using Acad. It isn't very clean. I can map layers and such, but it is cumbersome to get the text, notes, dimensions, Titleblocks, etc...to behave the same way in Acad. If I have to go in and alter the Acad dwgs in addition every time, then the process is useless. Any suggestions? (Also, it would be nice to have the option to bring parts in on their own layer when exporting assy dwgs. Is it even possible? Currently they are only translated via linetypes.) Quote
QualityEngineer Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 (edited) the short point is, it cant be done... Autodesk Inventor does not support layers from an export view at all. From an import, yes as this is transitioned into one file with attributes, but this does not help you at all... This is a classic conversant issue from two leading industry programs not unificationally talking to eachother.. I Currently Have this problem.... My opinion, import all 2d drawings into inventor, apply finishings and renderings in inventor, then put them out for release usign inventor. Not the other way.. This is what im doing and ill take a guess adn assumption, but my position on this is VASTLY bigger than the one your in as ive got to merge all our F1, Aerospace, MoD, NASA and Automotive drawings from ACAD to Inventor........ Hope this helps QE Edited July 28, 2011 by QualityEngineer Quote
QualityEngineer Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 One thing I came accross today that I didnt know is that you can export Part and assemblies from Inventor into AutoCAD, then if you are using ACAD 2012, you can use a problem called Autodesk fusion. This probram basically allows you to do you 3d objects and such in ACAD, then you press the edit in fusion, an d you have the partial power and commands of inventor that is able to edit your DWG and DWT's..... This is only available in ACAD 2012 though and im stil wet behind the ears on this one aswell, but its well worth looking at and solves a BIG problem that I had in the case of interoperability.... Hope this helps any further than my last post.... QE Quote
