adding connectors (or connection points) to custom built MV Parts

Anyone know of a good resource or tutorial for dummies when it comes to adding duct and or pipe connections to custom MV Parts?

For instance, I have made some VAV boxes but would love to add duct connections to them like the "stock" AMEP parts....

Is this more trouble than its worth?
