Hey guys im new here and this is my first post.

I am having some trouble with autocad. Its not actually autocad but i just cant get my head around it.

What i have done is scan an image of scaled drawings (1:400) into autocad. Now i need these drawings at 1:50 so what i intended on doing was to draw over the image and then scale it to 1:50.

The problem is do i need to set the page to a scale before i start drawing?

Or can i simply start drawing and then scale the drawing when iv finished?

I hope this makes sense i have confused myself even more just typing it.There is probably a very simple solution i hope i just dont look like an idiot for asking:?

Thanks in advance Chris

Do the scaled drawings you've scanned have dimensions on them? If so, trace first then scale. AutoCAD can tell you the length of the drawn line which you can then compare to the given length shown on the drawing and compute the required scale factor.

I'd scale the image so that it is full size in model space then go into a layout, open a viewport, and apply a scale to the viewport. Does that sound like it would work for you?

Like ReMark said if the drawings you scanned have dimensions on them trace them first. Then use the scale command, follow your normal steps up to the point where it asks for a scale factor.

At this point type in R for reference. Autocad will ask you to pick the existing distance off the drawing using two points or if you know the distance type that in. Then it will ask you for the distance it should be. You put that in and AutoCAD will do the work for you and scale the drawing by the correct scale factor.

Hope this helps.
