i successfully connected an external geotif image (raster) with the Data Connect function (ie, it overlays correctly with other survey data), however the image itself fills the viewport entirely, and i really only need a fraction of the image visible.

i am confused with the IMAGECLIP function as it doesn't seem to grab the image nor does the IMAGEFRAME function as the help files describe.

should i create a second viewport just for the raster image?

TIA

Is this a Civil3D question? I am not familiar with a Data Connect function in AutoCAD.

Ha! It is C3D 2011 - i have not yet learned how to make a surface and eventually will be using C3D, so i am using this software for everything to begin the learning process. seems like my question is universal to all the cad products, but maybe not.

how do you clip a raster geotiff?

thanks much!

Well to be more exact, its a MAP3D function that's included with Civil 3d.

What you can do is zoom into the area you want, then in the Map task pane Display manager tab, highlight the map raster layer (not autocad layer) and right click and select resample. then if you zoom out that's the size of the image displayed. Drawback is if you do a regen you may get the full image again.

You may be better off using the mapimageattach command to bring the image in, then use the image clipping features and leave the Data Connect for other things.

i cant MAPIMAGEATTACH command, nor a few dif permutatiions of the word. ill give the zooming technique a go. my solution was to clip the image in arcmap, and connect it that way.

howabout using multiple viewports, and "assigning" the raster image to a specific viewport sized exactly how i need it?

Sorry , the command is _mapiinsert, or you can use the xref command and attach the image then clip it.
