daveyboyd Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 I am trying to convert a mesh to solid in AutoCAD 2010 using the CONVTOSOLID command but I get this message . . . 'Mesh not converted because it is not closed or it self-intersects. Object cannot be converted.' Is there another way of achieving this? Thanks Dave Quote
ReMark Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 It sounds as though you have a problem with the underlying geometry that went into creating the mesh. Until you get that fixed I wouldn't think you could proceed any further. Just my opinion. Quote
JD Mather Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Can you attach the file here? Was Sculpt (I don't recall the command line syntax) in r2010? Quote
ReMark Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 (edited) From AutoCAD Help file. "Mesh with gaps between faces. Gizmo editing can sometimes result in gaps, or holes between the faces. In some cases, you can close the gaps by smoothing the mesh object." "Mesh that has self-intersecting boundaries. If you have modified a mesh object so that one or more faces intersect faces in the same object, you cannot convert it to a 3D solid. In some cases, mesh that is not eligible to be converted to a solid object can be converted to a surface." Edited August 4, 2011 by ReMark Quote
daveyboyd Posted August 4, 2011 Author Posted August 4, 2011 Started over after banging my head against wall, this time used the LOFT command to create solid. Works a treat, thanks for your replies nonetheless Quote
ReMark Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 The basis for a good solid model is good underlying geometry. Bad geometry will produce unexpected results or no results as all. Let's be careful out there OK? Quote
ReMark Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 The OP had a problem with his geometry that had to be solved first. He did try the CONVTOSOLID command but it failed. He subsequently solved the problem using a different method. Quote
