Openantics Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 i have to place about 50 trees on my surface contour map (coordinate system: ca zone) , and scale them relative to their trunk size. I created a PNEZD file where the z = trunk diameter in feet and now stuck not sure what approach that will place a standard tree icon centered at each position (N,E) and then scaled by the Z- column I also have several polygons that outline the shape of benches, paths, and bathrooms that exist on PNEZD files. any ideas? sinc Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 The standard way to do this is to use Description Keys. But your scaling property should be in the Description, not in the Z-value. The Z-value should be the elevation of the tree. Setup the Point Style normally, with a tree symbol that scales according to Drawing Scale. Then setup your Description Key so that the X-Y values are scaled up by a Parameter. For example, take the following Description Key: Notice how the "Scale Parameter" is selected and set to Parameter 1. (Parameter 1 indicates the first value after the description key.) I've also selected the option to scale the X-Y direction, but not the Z. For this, I think you need to define the Block used in your Point Style so that the "Scale uniformly" option is NOT set. Otherwise, you might also need to select the option to scale the block in the Z direction, too. Your Cogo Points should have a description like: TREE 3 This will result in a tree symbol that is scaled up 3x. Quote
Openantics Posted August 8, 2011 Author Posted August 8, 2011 thank you for the thoughtful reply: i have returned to my text books based on your posts and agree this is the right path, and while i cannot populate the X-Y to scale according to the the cogo description, there are a few steps i am still unclear on: 1. i cannot find the option to "Scale uniformly" in the Block i am using. also, i have toggled the Z scale on and off with no luck Aslo, can you elaborate on: "(Parameter 1 indicates the first value after the description key.)" I found this sentence in my cad text book: "In description key speak, each word followed by a space is called a parameter, and each parameter is given the $ sign plus a number (beginning with 0) designator" which i translate to what you suggested: TREE 3 should insert the tree block and sets parameter 1 (X-Y SCALE) to "3" update: my PNEZD file now reflects the true definitions of PNEZ, and D= TREE #. in prospector, it is clear the description keys are activated and working, however the X-Y scale column is not populating based on my COGO point definition (X-Y scale = *PROPERTY NOT SET*) any further clues? Thanks for your time!! Quote
