Problem saving files in Inventor 2009

G'day Guys.

I'm using Inventor 2009 and have come across a problem today. Whenever I create a new file or try to "save as" a file to a different name, the file wont save. Instead a message comes up stating "problems encoutered while saving the document" followed by the file path and name, but with the extension .ipt.* for a part, or .iam.* for an assembly.

Files I have tried to rename appear in the quick open section of the file menu, and they too have the extra dot and asterisk.

Would really appreciate a few thoughts on how to restore the save.

Regards

I've have that problem frequently as well. I work in Inventor 11. The only thing that I can think of is maybe it tries to follow the path in which you've orginally saved it.

I usually save my files on my desktop and work from there. At the end of the day I then move them to a folder on my desktop. The next day when I try to open the moved files, I get the same problem. Have you been moving your files after you save them?

If so, try moving them back to where they were when you saved them and try reopening.

Hi Ski.

Thanks for your reply.

It turned out to be fnger trouble on my part. during the first save of a new project, I inadvertently set save "all files (*.*)" instead of inventor part files "(*.ipt)" and that became the default.

Cheers

Phil
