Jack_O'neill Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 I have a potential customer inquiring about having some drawings done for a website. He wants dwg and dxf formats, as well as jpg and pdf. He also said he'd need ".vrml", ".vdaf" and ".edrw" Never heard of those. Anybody know what they go with? Quote
ReMark Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 The last one is for eDrawings. Solidworks. vrml - Virtual Reality Markup Language. VRML 2.0 utf8 can be used to create a vrml file. What is VRML? Glad you asked. An explanation can be found here...http://gun.teipir.gr/VRML-amgem/spec/vrmlspec.pdf vdaf? Never heard of such a thing. VDAF - Very Demanding and Assertive Female. In other words Jack, that's your wife. Quote

f700es Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 Well lots of programs can export VRML. It seems to have been updated to X3D. Looks like Blender can import/export this and it seems that AutoDesk 123D can export this as well. Which can import dwg as well. Quote

Downloaded it one day, played with it for a couple, and haven't gotten back to it. Quote
stevsmith Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 Seems to be a language to allow you to view 3d models on the web. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VRML I know its wiki, but its a start. Quote

SLW210 Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 eDrawings will open several file types (including .dwg, .dxf) and save to several file types and there is a free version. eDrawings Quote
f700es Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 Back in the mid to late 90's VRML was to be the next big thing. Well we all see what happened. Twitter and Facebook was more important Quote
Jack_O'neill Posted August 15, 2011 Author Posted August 15, 2011 Well, I have put in my bid that I can do any file export that Autocad or Bricscad can do, as well as GIMP. If that ain't good enough, they'll either have to get somebody with both or all three or 4 or however many packages or have more than one person do it. They even amended the bid packet to include Sketchup files. That would be fine, except the free version of that doesn't work with Autocad anymore, and I ain't buying the pro version for this one job. Thanks for the info guys. Quote

Jack_O'neill Posted August 15, 2011 Author Posted August 15, 2011 I'll give that a look Hulk, sounds like it might come in handy. Don't have a problem with that, but after they amended the packet, there were a dozen or more formats that they wanted for every file. I probably wouldn't get that one anyway. There are lots of overseas folks bidding about 25% of what I did and claiming to be able to do it all. Thanks! Quote
