MEP: My ceiling grid shows through my duct

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have been trying to put a ceiling grid on my mechanical sheet, but it shows through my 2-lined duct. I have tried setting the elevation and using the DrawingOrder command, but nothing seems to work. I am guessing that my duct is only 2 lines and not a solid object. Is there a way to make it a solid object, or fill in the color so that I wont be able to see through it?

Thank you,

Sean

Are you trying to use the AEC Ceiling Grid tool? Or are you just simply placing 2D linework that represents a ceiling grid? Either way, it's not going to work.

When you view MEP objects in Plan View, it simulates 2D-Linework. This has something to do with the Display Representations. I guess the only way you could go about it is if you use the MEP Presentation Display Configuration and set the Hatch in the Display Manager to a True Color 255,255,255 if you use a CTB Plot Style. This creates a "mask" essentially and "fills" the duct objects with this hatch, and anything underneath the duct will not show through.

I'm using the ceiling grid tool. Whenever I switch it to MEP Presentation, the grid disappears.

Is there any particular reason that you're using the Ceiling Grid tool by chance? The Ceiling Grid tool is really not needed at all when using AutoCAD MEP. To me, it just slows the entire process down.
