boxel0 Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 I need to model a urinal, i have tried doing it but just cant get my head around the geometry. I have found a pic on turbosquid of a 3d urinal I cant work out how to start and or finish, I have always tried to visualise an object as a base primative, like box, spere etc and then work on it from there, But this is a bit of a weird shape HELP ! ReMark Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 I have no idea how 3ds Max works but could you do it as a series of cross-sections that are then lofted? Or perhaps as a mesh object that you then edit via its grips? Quote
Cad64 Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 It's actually pretty simple. It's just a different type of modeling. What you've been doing is called box modeling, where you start with a primitive and then mold it into the shape you require. What you need to do with this object is called poly modeling, where you start with a single flat plane and then extrude out from the edges and build the shape as you go. Here's a tutorial on how to poly model a human head: http://www.3dtotal.com/team/Tutorials_3/facial_modeling/facial_modeling_01.php. You could use the same technique to model the urinal. Quote
