I am new to AutoCAD so excuse the elementary question. :)

I have a few line styles that I use that I need to always adjust the scale on, say for instance the one I use for: "Site Plan - Property Lines". I am using the dash dot line style and I make the line scale 0.40 each time I use it which is annoying. So...

I would like to create a a few line styles but I guess I am not sure where they would be saved, and if the template file would always see them? I guess I just don't know how it functions.

If I create them in the template file and save that template file, will all new files I create have access to them? I would like to make a new file and when I select the "Site Plan - Property Lines" I want it to already be at the right scale.

Is that possible?

Thanks!

I'm not sure if this is the correct way of doing it but in the LineType manager if u select the lintype you want to change and click Show Details you can change the global scale factor but i am unsure if you can save that.

Yes, you can create new linetypes in a number of ways. These linetypes can be added to the acad.lin file or saved in a new .lin file with a different name (ex. - MyCustom.lin).

Yes, your new linetypes can be loaded into and saved with your custom template file where they will always be available any time you start a new drawing that utilizes the template.

Options for creating linetypes.

You're entirely welcomed. When you get done designing your new linetypes come back and show a few of them off so we can all be impressed! LOL Good luck.

Quick question. Are the line styles saved into the template or are they saved elsewhere that I would need to know where they are if I want to send my CAD files to someone else to work on?

-Nevermind, as I suspected it is saved in a different file. :)

OK, so my AutoCAD does not have the "create" button or option in the line styles for some reason like the tutorial explained. I opened the linestyle file in notebook and have no clue how to edit it.

Do I have other options to create a new line style?

It's going to depend on the method you use to create the new linetype as to where it might be stored.

There are one or two methods of extracting unique linetypes from drawings that involve the use of lisp routines.

Pretty sure LISP will not work on LT.

If I am making a linetype similar to an existing linetype, I just copy the code in acad.lin and modify. Make Custom Linetype

Just pretty sure? Not absolutely, 100%, certifiably sure?;)

LT! You know what? It would be nice if the letters LT were bold, red and about 10 times larger than they are so a one-eyed blind man like me could see the dang thing!
