AlKnoll Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 Hello, Trying to put dimensions on a 3D object but having absolutely no control of the plane on which they are placed. How would it possible to change the setting that decides of the location of dimensions: I use 2002 version of Autocad. Grateful for any hints AlKnoll Quote
DANIEL Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 I would recommend doing your dimensions and annotations in paperspace. Quote
ReMark Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 You will have to learn how to manipulate your UCS and how to set its Origin once you do. First, consult your AutoCAD Help files or check out the tutorials here at CADTutor. Quote
AlKnoll Posted September 4, 2011 Author Posted September 4, 2011 Thanks to Daniel and ReMark! It's morale boosting thing this forum. As to the UCS: how would it be related to the dimensions routine, that is how dimensions functions uses UCS to place dimension? I understand that UCS is x,y,z. Then dimensions are projected on the x,y,z plane. But on which one and how to change it: say from x to y or z? AlKnoll I did it till this point.dwg Quote
nestly Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 If I'm not mistaken, the sketch above is actually an Isometric drawing, but that's not to say you can't do nearly the same thing with a true 3D model. To create the dimensions on the sketch in 3D, you'd just need 4 dimensioning planes (UCS's) Give me a couple of minutes, I'll put up a video demo. Quote
nestly Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 Here's a demo using 2011. so you obviously won't have the viewcube or the the pointer input, but hopefully most of the other tools/techniques are about the same as your version. *Note, I should have included in the video that you can also change the oblique angle of the text to further improve it's appearance Quote
lopezastete Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 Try AutoCAD 2012 the new ucs is fantastic, so asy to use Quote
