ghunt Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 OK, that question seems simple enough but it may be more complex than that (or I might just think it is). I'm using Civil 3D 2011 (specifically, Carlson), however I think this is more of a general question. I'm experienced with AutoCAD, but I'm new to the whole surveying thing and this particular program. OK, here's the deal- I've been working on putting in some deeds and a couple of the points have long descriptions. Points go into the drawing as a "block reference" and it always does single line text. I wanted mtext so it wouldn't be so long. I used "burst" to disassociate the text from the point block. Problem is...once I edit the text, how can I reassociate it with said point so that when points are turned on or off the text will turn on or off with them? If I just turn it back into a block I don't know if it will still work correctly or not. There is a Points menu where you can freeze or thaw points, so they're easily turned off if necessary. I just don't quite know how they're associated to work as such. Quote
Tiger Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 Why use Burst in the first place? Why not just edit the blocks attribute (double click on it)? Quote
ghunt Posted September 14, 2011 Author Posted September 14, 2011 If you do that you're still stuck with single line text... Quote
Tiger Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 I am not following you, are they not attributed blocks? Am I perhaps missing what you mean by 'deeds'? Quote
SLW210 Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 If they are attributes, at least with plain AutoCAD, they can be Single-line or Multi-line. Quote
qball Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 If they are attributes, at least with plain AutoCAD, they can be Single-line or Multi-line. yes, do multiline text. It's a small extra step to edit them because in the Attribute Editor there is an ellipsis to edit the text on the screen. But to answer your question, I don't think you can. Burst changes the attribute to text. You would have to re-create the attribute, but then you're stuck with the above mentioned method again of single or multiline. An alternative is to create multiple single lines of attribute text. Quote
Murph_map Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 If they are attributes, at least with plain AutoCAD, they can be Single-line or Multi-line. Right but the "KEY" word used in the OP is Carlson. I think the answer is inport the points as Civil 3D objects. Quote

Shouldn't matter for his question on making the text in a "block reference" multi-line. As far as the solution to his problem, you would be the expert in that. All things being said, I am moving this to the Civil3D & LDD forum. Quote
sinc Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 You definitely do not want to burst or explode either C3D or Carlson Cogo Points, at least in normal usage. Once you do, you have plain dumb Autocad entities that cannot be recombined back into a Cogo Point object. Unfortunately, while C3D Labels actually use MTEXT internally, there is no way to control the width, as you can with plain MTEXT. It's been a long-standing problem with all sorts of C3D labels. I *think* Carlson still uses standard Blocks, like Softdesk used to. As such, you might be able to edit the Block definition that Carlson uses to create the points, and change the attribute from single-line to multi-line. I no longer have a copy of Carlson, though, so I can't poke around in it and try things. Quote
Emigrato Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 Here's a workaround to keep both attributes and "bursted" text: 1] _UNDO _M 2] BURST 3] make a _WBLOCK of those bursted textes 4] _UNDO _B 5] _INSERT that Wblock Quote
