Issues with blocks...

Hey guys, so I'm having a little issue with my drawings... My work involves drawing conveyor systems in AutoCAD 2009. We use a program-thingy built into AutoCAD that allows us to select conveyors of specific widths, lengths, elevations, etc, and insert them into a drawing in the form of a block. The problem I'm having, which I'm pretty sure just recently developed, is that when I isolate a layer that the conveyors are on, they don't show up. I'll be able to select some of them, just by making a selection window and grabbing them, even though I can't see them, but others I'm just completely unable to grab. It's kind of annoying because I need to do this every so often. For example, I'm working on a drawing where several conveyors are on the wrong layer. So normally I'd just isolate the layer, grab them all, and switch them to the proper layer. As it is now, I need to find many of them individually, easter-egg hunt style. Not fun... I know this deals with third-party stuff, so it might not be a problem with AutoCAD itself, but any ideas could help... o:)

Are you working in 2D or 3D?

Non-conveyor-type blocks do not exhibit this behavior right?

Sounds like a graphics problem if you are able to select even though you can't see them.

Did you reboot the computer and the problem persists?

Sounds to me like the blocks were not created from layer zero, but created with layers you are freezing. If you set them on a layer, they will still act like the layers they are composed from not what layers they are inserted on.

You need the blocks BYLAYER and composed of objects on LAYER 0.

I get frustrated with several individuals at work, that like to create blocks using several different layers. I never know how their blocks will react in my drawings.

Or worse if they use Copy & Paste-As-Block to "make" their blocks ... that tends to drive me up the wall! Especially since they then have numerous unnamed blocks duplicating the same thing over and over again with the original layers in each.

There are some "clean block" lisp routines available which can change the internals of blocks onto layer 0 for you, though.

When you start the layiso command, use the Settings option and change to Lock and Fade instead of Off. This way you can still see the blocks and if they fade then you know there is more than one layer involved with the block.
