gb15 Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 I've seen similar problems to this in previous threads but I can't source the problem with mine. Basically I want to zoom->extents but when I do so the view zooms out much further than it should. I've tried a number of things. All layers are switched on and I try Control+A to select everything. If I zoom out a small bit more from the zoom->extents view I can see something highlighted at the bottom left of the drawing. However if I try to highlight this object separately I cannot do so. It is invisible even though all my layers are set to black. I have also tried using audit and purge as recommended in other threads but to no avail. I have attached my dwg file if anyone could offer some advice on it. The purpose of the drawing is for illustration only and so the dimensions on the left are simply text boxes. I've noticed that if I rotate the drawing these text boxes are on a different plane and will offset from the model even after a small rotation. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the problem. Any help appreciated. SSO Diagrams 3D.dwg Quote
hoss Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 As you have mentioned the texts are in a different plan, cuasing the problme. If you use Orbit and trun your object you will see they ( texts) are far infront of the objects, which cuase the zoom problem you are experincing. If you make a layer and put all the text in that layer and freez it, then do a Zoom extend you will see that Quote

You'll need to move them all the same plane. You'll need to create a ucs on the plane everything should be on. You may even have to move some of them manually, but "flatten" will get a bunch of it for you. Quote
ReMark Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 You might want to practice reorienting the UCS when dimensioning or labeling objects in 3D. This appears to be a self-inflicted problem and has nothing to do with AutoCAD malfunctioning therefore Audit and Purge aren't going to be of any help. Quote
ReMark Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 Is there something strange with the UCS in this drawing or have I had too much coffee this morning? Quote
Dana W Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 Is there something strange with the UCS in this drawing or have I had too much coffee this morning? Have another coffee. Yer good. Y is the vertical, and the objects are 45 deg off alignment with X and Z, both of which are the horiontals. I changed it to plan view, world and the Y was then pointin' straight at me. Quote
ReMark Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 Cup number 10 coming right up! Thanks Dana. Quote
Jack_O'neill Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 Cup number 10 coming right up! Thanks Dana. Just get a long straw and stick it in the pot. Less dishes to do that way. I did the same thing Dana did, and thought..."uh...what?" @OP...the ucs is your friend. It will help you if you let it. Quote

It's not often I post something helpfull. You know, guys, those one man brake bleeding kits come in right handy on a coffee pot. One hose in mouth, one in coffee pot, pump in hand. I tried to re-word that so most of it would NOT end up in the "Out of Context" thread, but what the heck. Quote

ReMark Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 Aren't you glad to know that your every utterance has been saved, out of context, for all posterity? Kind of makes you want to become a mime. Quote

Or, I could run for President as a Republican, the only other way to be quoted Out of Context so much as to top our own "Out of Context" game. I think I am leaning toward President. I have issues with striped tights. (30 seconds and counting ) Quote
gb15 Posted October 14, 2011 Author Posted October 14, 2011 Thanks for the comments everyone. Spot on it was the issue with my text being split between planes being the culprit. I initially thought it would be an unlikely reason as I assumed AutoCad could zoom extend based on the current view regardless of original axis orientation. Anyway all fixed now so thanks again.
