strange drawing problem

i have just done a job for a client, i used a drawing as an xref and over layed my work, i bound the xref and plotted a pdf that was ok, i emailed the dwg to the client and they say they cannot see the xref in paper space just my pipe work, if they switch to model the xref and pipe work are there. if i open up the file i emailed them the drawing is ok in paper space. never had this happen before, i was thinking of asking them to do a regen in paper space to see if the xref appears, other than that i am stumped, any other ideas?

Were there any proxy objects in the xref? It won't bind if there are.

Did you use "etransmit" to send the file? If not, you might try it. Sure makes it easy to include everything.

What version of AutoCAD do your clients have? Do they have to use DWG TrueView to convert?

the xref is definitely bound as the client can see it in model space but not in paper, i have opened the file on two separate pc's and it displays fine on both, the client is using 2010 i use 2010 but save to 2007. might try and wblock the whole drawing into a new file and see if that works.

The xref is there in paper space, but you need to put in a big sheet size and make your viewport small enough to fit on the paper. What's happening is that the lines in the xref are gray, and so is the background in the area bigger than the paper. It's there, you just can't see it because it's the same color as the background.

--edit-- you could change the color of the lines in the xref to something besides gray too, that might be easier.

thanks jack, looking in the page set up manager the paper size is A4, is that causing the problem? just can't figure out why it is appearing ok on my screen

I think it defaults to "on" for most installations. I never bothered to turn it off.

Glad I could help. Have a good day.
