seekn_destroy Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Hello! It seems there've been a change in some system variable i ACAD2012 that changes the way a line lengthens when you use the grips. I want the length to change relative to the selected grip not determine the total length of the line! Do you guys have a solution to this? I'm guessing that it have something to do with polar tracking, if I turn it of the stretching works the way I want... Quote
designerstuart Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 i don't have 2012 but i think if you go to drafting settings (right click polar button below command line) choose dynamic tab, click settings for dimension input box then you can choose which it is - relative or resulting dimension. seekn_destroy Posted October 18, 2011 Author Posted October 18, 2011 Thank you, but I don't have dynamic input active! otherwise I switch between relative and absolute with the tab-key. I would like to find something that works without dynamic input active! (or I could start work with dynamic input ) Quote
troggarf Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 How about the LENGTHEN command LEN and then use the DYnamic option? (example) LEN DY then select the end of a line and pull in the direction you want to lengthen (or shorten) and then enter the distance you want to lengthen. Quote
seekn_destroy Posted October 18, 2011 Author Posted October 18, 2011 Thanks for replying! I could use the stretch-command just as well as the lengthen-command, but some of my co-workers love the "grips" I find it strange that the prechosen value for lengthen a line with grips is total length! Quote

This is what I use but just as a note, LENGTHEN does NOT work on a POLYLINE. Quote
seekn_destroy Posted October 18, 2011 Author Posted October 18, 2011 lengthen does work with polylines Quote
seekn_destroy Posted October 18, 2011 Author Posted October 18, 2011 ok, maybe thats a new feature... Quote
eldon Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 How about the LENGTHEN command LEN and then use the DYnamic option? (example) Your example only shows a LINE being Lengthened by dynamic option. It does NOT show it working with a polyline Quote
troggarf Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 For 2011 & 2012 Polylines: Select the polyline Hover over the end-point grip that you want to lengthen Select "Stretch" B to specify a base point Click the end point to specify the old end point move the cursor in the direction you want lengthened (note: there should be a dotted "extension line that shows you when you are lengthening in the direction of the original line) enter the distance of what you want added to the endpoint Quote
troggarf Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Your example only shows a LINE being Lengthened by dynamic option. It does NOT show it working with a polyline I have made a new post that shows how to lengthen a polyline vertex or endpoint (found here) ~enjoy Quote
seekn_destroy Posted October 19, 2011 Author Posted October 19, 2011 Nice tut troggarf! I just use object-tracking... back to using the grips! It works sometimes, I notice that the basepoint of the line is the key! if I just click on the line to select it, it always select the opposite grip, but if I select the grip I want to use as basepoint by making a "square-selection" it always select the grip within this square! Hope you understand me It would be great to always make the grip closest to my "click" (selection) as basepoint! Quote
