Calling all Tech Gurus! Alert Bubble Keeps on Flashing - It's Annoying

I thought I cured it today. Famous last words.

For the last two days, (that I've been actively working on trying to fix it,) there has been what I guess is an alert bubble. It's only there for a fraction of a second, so I can't read the content of the bubble. This happens every10 minutes or so.

I put up with it for a long while, then it just got annoying and distracting.

SO, first I tried a system restore. It reported back error # 0x08007005. So, I did a System Recovery, took off all the bloatware, that they put on (HP) and put the programs I had installed back on.

*ACAD 2010

*Office 2010

*FireFox 7.0.1

*Avira (Paid Version)

I temporarily Installed *Malwarebytes to see if I had any malware. Report came back negative, so to speak.

The temporary install of Hitman Pro confirmed Malwarebytes findings

Avira, after running a full scan reported finding No viruses.

So, yesterday, I did a second System Recovery. I kept all the bloatware, except Norton, so Avira could run. Then uninstalled the programs I installed one by one and looked and waited to see the effect.

So far so good. :)

Then I reloaded the each program one by one to see the effect

So Far so good :)

I installed CCleaner this go around, and used it after every uninstall, because of my problems with System Restore.

I also installed Chrome. (I heard it was faster than FF, and I have to agree.)

Now, Chrome is Uninstalled Firefox is installed , as I used that configuration, (ACAD and FF on the same machine) for months with no problems.

So, now, well actually 30 mins ago - the bubble flashed again, right over around where my clock is (lower left hand corner.) Now it flashes "on the 4's" every 10 minutes.

I also have ***all*** the windows updates. No new drivers that they recommend for my system, though. HP Update says all my drivers are up to date.

I apologize for the length of the post.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance...

You must live a charmed life to be so lucky.

What does this "Alert bubble" look like? Seeing how I have no such problems on any one of my three computers I admit I don't have a clue as to what an alert bubble is.

Mine usually says, "Your mouse batteries are critical" and it pops up about every 10 minutes.

I have not found my mouse batteries to be very critical at all. Indeed, they are quite easy to get along with, and accepting of most everything I do.

Actually, without knowing what the message says, we are going to remain clueless along with you.

You need to try to get a screen shot of the bubble. HP itself has a few it will pop up occasionally.

My Dell Solution Center does that too. Kept telling me there were Solutions available. "What soulutions? I ain't had no stinkin' problems." So I shot it in its nads.

I called iYogi and for the moment anyway I think I've got it straightened out. Something about a service was stopped. He started it; and I've only seen it once since. I can live with that.

Dana: you're lucky. I never got an bubble that popped up saying either my keyboard or mouse's batteries, I'd just be there typing away and all of a sudden, I'd still be typing, but nothing is appearing on screen. Same thing with the mouse. I'd be working one minute, the next, nuttin. I shouldda been so lucky as you.

Maybe -finally- this thing is settling down. (famous last words.)

You are using a PC support service called iYogi? If so, why?

Sorry for the late reply.

I liked the opening line. Cute. :)

Here's an example of an alert bubble.

OK now I see what you mean. Looks like you have to disable some feature or another to avoid being bothered by them.

Let me start at the beginning.

I was using Avast! and I was having an issue with that program. The nature of the issue escapes me at the moment...Anyway, I went to their site, to look for their tech support number.

Lo and behold, they say they have 24/7 tech support. So I called. It turns out that phone number rings iYogi. They gave me a lot of free help, but before the call was over I paid for annual service so they could service my computer during that call. As I recall, they took care of the reason I called.

Fast forward to this issue:

Initially, I suspected a software conflict, and hoped to find a solution by approaching it from that angle, and worked on it for days, and came up empty. So, I gave them a call.

What he did was activate a service that he located in the Event Viewer that had stopped...or vice versa.

It turns out, since the call, I've only seen the bubble maybe 2 or 3 times. (which is a huge improvement over every 10 minutes.)
