Trevsweb Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Hi, I'm new to the forums and really to autocad although i have used it before and trained under it i have returned to AutoCAD now... anyway. i'm in paperspace with my two viewports of two opposite ends of a drawing detail. but i want to dimension the legnth between the two viewports. at the moment i can dimension the two but the numbers are wrong with manual edits i can change this but i wanted to see if there was a way to do this? is this possible in the likes of autocad 2004? or even 2009? charlie72 Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 If you zoom into a the whole detail take a measurement of the full length that you need. Then edit the attribute of the dimension figure is not in the centre of the dimension but close to your detail when you zoom back in on the detail. Quote
Trevsweb Posted October 17, 2008 Author Posted October 17, 2008 yea thats sadly what ive been doing but i thought i would see if you guys knew a proper accurate way of doing this thanks Quote
wannabe Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 Can you not set the scales in the dimension style? Quote
rkent Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 Assuming there is a line the full length of the object to dimension. Dim by snapping to the ends of the line (between the two objects), this will give PS distance. Now edit the dim text, insert a field, use object, select the line, set units if necessary, ok. Quote
nocturne00 Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 Or just simply Text Override the dimension. how hard can it be. This question was asked twice now Quote
rkent Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 A lot of people avoid dim overrides at all costs, using a field (as I described) means that the dim is still associated and will adjust as the model is adjusted. Quote
bonehead411 Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 Yeah, I've only ever managed this with a text override. It's a pain in the ass, but easy enough. The field solution sounds logical and useful rkent. Sadly though, not available to me as a user of LT 2005. Quote
DVDM Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 I posted a solution to this problem in this topic: http://www.cadtutor.net/forum/showthread.php?p=187844#post187844 Quote
