amulrod Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 hey ppl just started using 3ds max2011 im having a very funny problem when i try to model an object... i dont know wat i do.... but all of a sudden im unable to select anything.... i dont know y it happens or how to solve it i tried the lock n unlock thingi at the bottom of the window.... but that doesnt seem to be the prob pls help Quote
Cad64 Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Can you post an image of your screen so I can see your interface? I have a feeling you may have one of your selection modes active, (vertex, edge, polygon, etc.). If so, you won't be able to select anything else until you turn off the selection mode. Quote
Raudel Solis Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 no need to post an image if your new to 3ds max i am guessing the reason you can't select anything is because you pressed the space bar on accident the space bar toggles selection lock.. if this is the problem then pressing the space bar will fix it. by default it is off. Cad64 Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 Please don't tell others to disregard my suggestions. Hitting the Spacebar is the same thing as clicking the Lock/Unlock button at the bottom of the screen. And as amulrod stated, he has already tried that. i tried the lock n unlock thingi at the bottom of the window.... but that doesnt seem to be the prob So, please post an image so I can see your interface. Cad64 Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 How to take a screenshot: http://take-a-screenshot.org/ But before you do that, just take a look at the image below. Are any of your selection buttons active? If so, just click to deactivate them and then you should be able to select other objects. Quote
Raudel Solis Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 Please don't tell others to disregard my suggestions. . oh wow... i did not at any time say to disregard your suggestions... if that was my intention i would have said the following "pfft screenshot no need, disregard that, if your new then you possibly hit the spacebar on accident....continued" Quote

Cad64 Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 i did not at any time say to disregard your suggestions... You didn't have to say it. It was implied. no need to post an image There is no other way to interpret that. Amulrod, glad you got it figured out. Quote

Raudel Solis Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 ok here is another one....u know v hv a insert edge loop tool in maya how do i get the same thing in max?? insert edge as in create an edge or a loop? two ways the object must be a polygon and go to the polygon subobject level and find the tool CUT pick 2 points and it cuts it leaving a segment the other is the loop tool you had quite some typos so i'm not sure if this is what you meant. Cad64 Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 u know v hv a insert edge loop tool in maya how do i get the same thing in max?? "Swift Loop" is the 3DS Max equivalent to the edge loop tool in Maya, but it will only work on quads. If you have tri's or ngons it's not going to work completely. Quote
