300D Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 I there a way to connect the 3D solids of this drawing and define the pivot points so that when you move one part all parts react accordingly? I have never tried this in Autocad before. Quote
JD Mather Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Yes Sign up for this class at AU http://au.autodesk.com/?nd=event_class&session_id=9238&jid=1773119 Really slick. It will knock your socks off. You immediate impression will be, "You did THAT in vanilla AutoCAD...." of course if you are a student - all of this is much easier in a modern MCAD program like Autodesk Inventor. Students can get Inventor for free from http://www.autodesk.com/edcommunity Quote
nextvkin Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 all of this is much easier in a modern MCAD program like Autodesk Inventor Hi JD, now that ACAD 2012 has Inventor fusion, would that be just as good as a standalone Inventor? Quote
JD Mather Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 Inventor Fusion does not have kinematics or dymanic simulation like Inventor or Inventor Professional. The main use of Fusion is to edit neutral format files or as a between CADs translator. Quote
nextvkin Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 You got me interested; would a solid background in Vanilla AutoCAD be an advantage to learning Inventor? In any case I think I'll get it & see. Quote
JD Mather Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 I think a background in any CAD program helps (but then I use 4 on a daily basis). Experience has taught me that many users have trouble learning a new CAD program because they want it to work like their last program. Accept the differences - don't fight them, understand that there IS an easy way - you just don't know it yet. In the end Extrude is still Extrude, Sweep is still....... I should add that Inventor Fusion is wayyyyyyyyyyyy different than Inventor. Start here to avoid much frustration http://home.pct.edu/~jmather/skillsusa%20university.pdf Quote
nextvkin Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 JD, thanks for your insight on this & the link. Quote
