Im trying to slice a surface into sections. Im not much of a surface modeller, never really tried. For example the surface is a cylindrical shaped peice. Multiple faces, and peices. When i slice through it, it slices some peices and others it fails to slice. Confusing. I would upload the peice but unfortunatly i cant due to contract restrictions. But is there any methods of slicing or tips that are a common practice when working with surfaces? Not sure what info you need. Just ask and ill tell you what i know/can.

Not trying to discourage or anything but AutoCAD really isn't the program to use for surface/mesh modeling. Solids are fantastic but a NURBS modeler (eg: 3DS Max, Maya, Rhino) is really needed for meshes.

Oh believe me, i know Acad isnt good for it. But all im trying to do is take sections for dimensions. I find it easier to rotate and stuff. Not alter the surface beyond trying to make sections happen. I have Rhino and SW but my knowledge of either is complete newbie. If your saying it will not work then i guess i have no option but to learn one of them to make this happen. I was just trying to get this done in Acad, being it my trade program. I plan on learning both regardless but the turn-around time for this project will not allow it.

Great Avatar Pic, and even Greater Movie.

Surely you can make up an example problem that exhibits all of the behavior of the proprietary model.

Sample Prob.jpgHere is what im dealing with. I would like to take sections of the increments you can see. The green sruface is the plane id like to use as a section. Whats happening is when i do slice, some of the surfaces will slice, but the others will not. And its saying that its not even on the same plane.

The file was originally just a surface. Not too familiar with surfaces and surface modelling. I couldnt figure out how to convert to solid. Not sure if the construction of this is solid-able. lol. Also, tried to add the DWG here but it was too large.
