Siberian
I know some people use separate constructs for vertical ducts/pipes spanning multiple floors. Let's say you have a number of takeoffs from a vertical duct at different floors. If you need to adjust the position of this vertical duct, how do you handle the need to deal with each one of these takeoffs once the vertical duct has moved? If we're talking about a couple of floors it's not much of a problem, but what if it's a fifty story building? Certainly there must be an easier way to deal with this? tzframpton
I guess my original post was removed. To answer your question, unfortunately there is not an easier way to deal with this issue. It's one of the main limitations of AutoCAD MEP since each "construct" is a separate DWG file. This means each "file" is equivalent to each "floor", so you'll have to separate the main duct branch from file to file, breaking the continuation. The other option is you can span the main duct through each floor with all the taps, then you negate the relevance of using Constructs since that would essentially be creating all the duct in a single file. So you have to choose which path you want to go. If there's ever a change in design, it might have you opening each floor and re-attaching the tap to the main duct.
