Disappearing viewcube and hotkey for orbit

Two questions regaring Revit MEP 2011,

1)

When looking at a specific plan view my viewcube doesn't show. As soon as I switch to a 3D view it appears. Should it be so?

 

2)

In videos etc I see people using the orbit tool with ease to adjust their view. I would like this to be binded to some hotkey. The only way I know to bring it up is via the steeringwheel - which I never normally use.

You can execute 3DORBITTRANSPARENT by hold the shift key down, then holding the mouse middle button down, as if to pan.
