Changing the field of view while in perspective mode?

How does one change the field of view while in perspective mode? I am not referring to a camera's field of view, but the field of view which is displayed on your screen while panning and "walking" around a model. Similar to how sketchup lets you change from 1 to 120 degrees at any given time.

You can't really "walk" around a model. AutoCAD's view system doesn't allow for it as fluid as other programs such as Navisworks. So to answer your question, there's not really a way, although I could be wrong.

However there's a really easy workaround that I use a lot. You can download Navisworks Freedom, which is the free viewer for Navisworks files. But the catch is, it can also view DWFx files. So you can easily save your files as a 3D DWFx, then open them straight into Navisworks Freedom, and use the excellent navigation tools to truly "walk" around the model, experiencing it in a much better way than AutoCAD could ever offer.

Thanks, that answers my question well enough.

You are right that AutoCAD doesn't offer it fluidly, but it does offer it to a certain extent. When I right click I have the option to activate one of the "navigation wheels" which offers several 3d navigation tools such as walk, look, move up/down etc. This did the job for the quick inspection I wanted to do in the 3d model without having to actually hide specific layers or generate a live section. But I think the field of view is stuck at like 60 or something claustrophobic like that. I can position a camera and set that camera's FOV, which makes me feel like I should be able to adjust the global setting, but this is AutoCAD, so what I feel should be possible usually isn't.

Ah, I didn't realize the NAVSWHEEL had a Walk and Look option. Very nice indeed and although I will give Autodesk props, it still doesn't compare to the Navisworks nav tools. I will admit that I will be using this from here on out as it is more than enough for normal inspection of a 3D model, that's for certain. Learn something new every day I guess!!

But I wonder if you could set a View with the Perspective on and change the FOV settings to your choice. When you make that View current, and you initiate the NAVSWHEEL Walk command, does it not retain that particular FOV?

First hit Ctrl+1 to keep the Properties Flag displayed. Then Enter 3DO (3D Orbit command) > Right Click anywhere in the model space and select Perspective to enable the perspective mode > Enter the values you want for the Lens Length (or Field of View) in the properties flag. Done! ;)
