resullins Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 I just had to reinstall AutoCAD this week for being a very bad boy. Now, when I switch between open files, my screen goes blank. It takes a regen to get all my stuff to appear again. It even goes blank in my viewport... I have to go into the viewport and regen separately from the main drawing. Has anyone ever seen this? I REALLY don't want to reinstall AGAIN! Quote
ReMark Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 You live the charmed life. Ever think about becoming an accountant? You could try a REPAIR instead. Could it be a graphics issue and not a software issue? Quote
resullins Posted December 16, 2011 Author Posted December 16, 2011 You live the charmed life. Ever think about becoming an accountant? You could try a REPAIR instead. Could it be a graphics issue and not a software issue? HA! If you saw my bank account, you'd realize I'd be the WORST accountant ever.!!! I thought it might be a graphics issue, cause I have had a major issue with my graphics card for a long time, but it just happened to start when I reinstalled. Quote
SLW210 Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 What driver you got for the card? LATEST DRIVER Quote
ReMark Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 You don't strike me as the shrinking violet type so I'm going to suggest that you exit all programs and shut down your computer. On the back of your computer there should be a rocker switch somewhere close by the power cord that goes to the main power supply. Turn it off. Unplug the computer. Grab a phillips head screwdriver. Drag the computer out into the daylight and open it up. Touch the power supply casing to ground yourself. Find the graphics card, disengage any wires (could be power and/or sound) that might be running to/from it, then using the screwdriver remove the card from its slot. Have a can of pressurized air around? If so, take the computer case outside and clear out all the dust bunnies. Don't "spin" any fans directly with the pressurized air; it's not good for them. Bring the case back inside, re-seat the graphics card, attach any and all wires. Button up the case. Plug the power cord back in and turn on the rocker switch. Boot up the computer. Test as required. What happens? By the way, depending on the type of graphics card you have there may be a plastic lever at the rear of the card that will have to be disengaged. Look for it before trying to pull the card out. Quote
resullins Posted December 16, 2011 Author Posted December 16, 2011 @SLW: I am now installing the new driver. The last time I checked, they didn't have a new one out... but I'll try this one. Thank you! @ReMark: That's definitely not something I've tried. I will go Monday and get some pressurized air and work on that... but right now it's 3:!5 on a Friday, and I have to leave to go out of town RIGHT at 5. And I am SO a shrinking violet, very demure and lady-like! (I almost got through that with a straight face.) Quote
ReMark Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 I guess I got you mixed up with someone else. OK...good luck with the driver. If that solves the problem then you won't have to crack the case and deal with the ensuing dust bowl. Quote
resullins Posted December 16, 2011 Author Posted December 16, 2011 It shouldn't be that bad. I had to crack it open to install some extra RAM not too long ago. Quote
ReMark Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 So that makes you a demure, lady-like geek? Quote
