eyde Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 Hello Everyone, I need to open a bunch of drawings and edit the date field in the title block from date saved to date created. One of the cathes is that we use Vault. Would anyone have any idea how I can do this? Quote

ScribbleJ Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 (edited) eyde I am not familiar with Vault but your request begs the question; Do you use Sheet Set Manager by chance? Also when you say "field" do you mean a true dynamic field that is linked to a custom property? I ask this because the date can be edited one time within sheet set manager custom properties and if all the sheets have dynamic fields in them linked to the aforementioned custom property then it is only needed to be edited in that one place. The next question would be does Vault allow custom properties to link fields to? I am beginning to think know one likes me? Concerning this; I don't know that too many here use dynamic fields. At least in my experience I have not seen anyone reply to or make a request on this topic. At my company (at least in my organization) we use fields religiously. It saves a lot of time when sheets get renumbered which of course would make detail references incorrectly point to the wrong sheet if they were not linked via fields to custom properties. eyde Posted January 12, 2012 Author Posted January 12, 2012 Thanks for the reply. No we do not use sheet sets. The field is just a date field in the title block. The problem I am having is that I need to check out drawings from Vault and change the date field from (saved date) to (create date) then save and check drawings back into Vault. This is a tall order and I really don't see any way to do this with Autolisp because of the dialog boxes. Just thought I would put it out there for you guy's you all come up with some great stuff. ScribbleJ Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Indeed this is a tall order. Very tall at that. There are to many variables involved in a situation like this. I liken this to transforming an unknown coordinate system to a known one. (i.e. an unknown coordinates to NAD 83 State Plane coordinates.) You have to know where you are before you can get to your destination. Quote
eyde Posted January 12, 2012 Author Posted January 12, 2012 Thanks agian. I will just have to open the drawings and change each manually. Ho:shock: what fun this is going to be. Some time last year 2011 the tiltle block date on our drawing template was changed and I did not notice it until 2012. Quote
ScribbleJ Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 This is not directed at you eyde but it is mind boggling to me as to why most buck/refuse to use the sheet set manager. This case right here is a perfect example as to why it is so useful. Had the sheet set manager been utilized here this would have been a 10 minute (more or less) process. When a date or a sheet number changes the only place I change it would be either in the sheet set manager itself or the custom properties of it. Even within the company I work for it is not always met with enthusiasm. I just don't get why one would not want to be more efficient and let the software do the work for you in mundane areas like this. Quote
