Siberian Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 I draw several different drawings in the same dwg file - just offset from each other in the XY-plane. I want to bring these together on top of each other to form the complete picture, but I'm not sure how to accomplish this in an easy way. If it was a one time thing I would just use the Move command, but the goal is also for the combined picture to be updated as the seperate drawings are changed - not realtime - but maybe in some x-ref kinda way. The whole thing would be easy if the seperate drawings were also seperate files, but as they are not I'm not sure how to solve it... Quote
the ber Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Can't you make each separate drawing into a block? Quote
ReMark Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Is each drawing on its own layer or group of layers? Had these been several different drawings (each saved as its own DWG) then you could xref them into one master drawing. Quote
Dadgad Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 (edited) Is each drawing on its own layer or group of layers? Had these been several different drawings (each saved as its own DWG) then you could xref them into one master drawing. How about creating new layers, then using the offset command to those layers, specifying the offset distance to align them on their new layers in the correct positions to align over the other layout? Or perhaps the COPYTOLAYER command is the way to go, specifying a new layer name or names. Then they can be aligned over the original master, and their new unique layers makes them visibility adjustable. Edited January 15, 2012 by Dadgad Quote
rkent Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 create viewports in a layout, one for each of your model areas and align them in the layout, fairly easy thing to do actually Quote
Siberian Posted January 16, 2012 Author Posted January 16, 2012 Can't you make each separate drawing into a block? If I converted them into blocks that would prevent me from continuing working with them afterwards. What I'll use this full picture for is to create sideways views etc. Quote
the ber Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 You can work with blocks in the block editor. But, it might be better to use XREF's for what you want. Quote
Dipali Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 you need to use "wblock" to create individual file for each drawing and than xref than in one master drawing. mkae sure to use similar point i.e. corner of building/column as pick point for each drawing while wblocking out. so when u xref they will come automatically on top of each other. Dazacad Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 2012 has a group command where you can group objects and give them a name. i've never used it but this could be what you need. Quote
