rock1 Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 im unable to hatch a simple rectangle i found in one of my drawings. uploaded is a problematic portion. i filleted edges but to no avail http://www.sendspace.com/file/qdk2ak Quote
ReMark Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 Please post the file here. After a recent unpleasant experience downloading a drawing file from a similar site some of us no longer trust websites such as sendspace. Sorry. Quote
ReMark Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 I'll take a wild guess. You have duplicate geometry overlaying one (or more) side(s) of your rectangle thus the reason for your problem. Run the OVERKILL command on it and/or redraw your rectangle from scratch. One other thought comes to mind. Maybe one or more of your lines is at an elevation other than "0". Quote
ReMark Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 Thanks. Well that didn't take long. The vertical line on the right hand side has a copy of itself overlaying the original. Erase it (or use the OVERKILL command to do it for you). You should then be able to hatch your rectangle. BTW...two of your lines are actually lightweight polylines and the other two are plain lines. Why is that? Oh boy, more fun stuff. So I explode the two polylines and what do I find? One of the lines has an endpoint with a negative Z value. What the heck did you do here? It's a simple rectangle. It should not have this many problems. And the beat goes on. One of your plain lines also has a negative Z value at one end. What is the source of the drawing you got this rectangle from? Quote
ReMark Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 Easiest solution to your problem. 1. Erase the top line (of two) on the right hand side of the rectangle. 2. Use the FLATTEN command to get all lines back to a "Z" of "0". 3. Hatch your rectangle. Done. In the future, whenever you have a problem with some geometry, check the properties of the entity either utilizing the LIST command or by clicking on the object and looking at the Properties panel. Compare what you believe you know about the object to what AutoCAD is telling you. Check for differences. These clues may well lead you to a solution to your problem. Quote
rock1 Posted January 26, 2012 Author Posted January 26, 2012 the drawing is from an office colleague. flatten command doesn't work. if i write flatten. i get unknown command "flatten" Quote
ReMark Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 That's probably because you don't have Express Tools installed. FLATTEN Flatten creates a 2D representation of selected objects and projects selected objects on to the current viewing plane, forcing object elevations and thickness to 0. Quote
