dbroada Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 We have just upgraded to AutoCAD 2011 (I know 2013 is out soon) and one feature is currently driving me insane. When I put blocks next to each other they somehow lock together. Any dynamic grip is turned off and I cannot find an easier way of modifying them than erasing each bit, make it to the length I need AND THEN move it in to place. A curious symbol, 1 filled in square and one outline square linked by a line at 45 degrees appears and the grip shrinks to about half its normal size. 3 questions - why is this happening, how can I prevent it happening & is there a way of breaking the group? ReMark Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 Did you accidentally apply a constraint to two or more blocks? Quote
dbroada Posted January 23, 2012 Author Posted January 23, 2012 quite likely but I can't work out either how to add them, or currently more importantly, how to remove them. Just to be even more useful this new install doesn't yet have the help files loaded but even with them I wouldn't know what I needed to search on. Quote
Tiger Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 Could be a co-planar constraints yes - I know it took me a while to turn them off when I got 2011. Check the Parametric-tab on your Ribbon, there are your constraints. I can't right now remember how to disable it completely, but I am sure I have seen that answered somewhere. Quote

dbroada Posted January 23, 2012 Author Posted January 23, 2012 thanks both (plus nesty in the other thread) DELCONSTRAINTS gets rid of them once they are there and Infer Constraints has now been turned off. Hopefully that is now sorted! Quote

Amazingly I seem to be the only one with this problem. Either I clicked it on and nobody else did or (probably more likely) nobody else has noticed yet. Quote

One advance of being a former beta tester you get to see what needs to be check/unchecked with a new rollout. Quote
ReMark Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 CADTutor has had about eight different threads that mention the phrase infer constraints. At least half of those were specific to the problem Dave posted here about. Quote
