hi, i'm investigating and pushing the boundaries with my new toolbox lt (3d cad bolt on) for my auttocad lt 2008.

firstly, how do shade a top of a cylinder (or a circle)?

secondly, i was looking at rendering and shadows etc, it says to go to vie, then render

in my cad if i go to the drop down view, there's no render option.

is this because i have lt version or because its not default and i have to load it...if so how do i do this?

thankyou

Sarah:)

It's probably because you have LT. I know that Toolbox adds functionality back in, but I don't know how it does this? What happens if you just type RENDER at the command line?

it says

unknown command.......

thats not good is it!?

i think i'm going off lt!

I downloaded the toolbox add on and tried the same thing without success.

Toolbox only gives you basic solid & surface modeling abilities. I found you could'nt even fillet solids !

do you know how to add a surface a circle or the top of a cylinder then?

Try this, I pasted it from the help files.

Not sure whether it will work with LT Toolbox though.

To change the color of a face on a solid object

  1. Press and hold CTRL.
  2. Click a face on a 3D solid.
  3. If the Properties palette is not displayed, click Tools » Palettes » Properties.
  4. In the Properties palette, under General, click Color. An arrow is displayed in the right column.
  5. Click the arrow and select a color from the list or click Select Color to display the Select Color dialog box. If you click Select Color, do one of the following:
    • On the Index tab, click a color or enter the ACI color number (1-255) or name in the Color box.
    • On the True Color tab, select the HSL color model in the Color Model option and specify a color by entering a color value in the Color box or by specifying values in the Hue, Saturation, and Luminance boxes. Click OK.
    • On the True Color tab, select the RGB color model in the Color Model box. Specify a color by entering a color value in the Color box or by specifying values in the Red, Green, and Blue boxes.
    • On the Color Books tab, select a color book from the Color Book box. Select a color by navigating the color book (using the up and down arrows) and clicking on a color chip. Click OK.

try to region the circle, then render or type rr, the circle will have a shade.

second... view is used only for background imaging for render option, placing a background for your 3d perspective positioning.

As sarah mentioned, RR, which is render gives an unknown command in CAD LT version

haha....maybe its just a case of having to hatch the shape with the pre-defined 'solid' hatch pattern, dont know if this would look odd when placed with other shaded items, lighting effect may not be similar.:D

region also does work to fill in the circle, but rr does not,

unknown command.....in lt i think

sowe... it doesn't work in lt... but i hope the region helps you...
