Quick Select - freeze

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to use remove many of the same block from a drawing and know that I can use the quick select to `grab` the blocks in one go but only seem to be able to erase them. I could do with freezing them for later. Perhaps it might be better to move them to a new layer?

Any advice?

"Freezing them"? not sure what you mean by that.

If you want to keep them for later use then you could WBLOCK them out to their own drawing before deleting them.

By freezing, I mean turn the block off so its still there if I need it again in the future. The drawing we have been sent has a number of blocks on it all on the same layer so if we `freeze` the layer obviously everything disappears. We just want to get rid of a couple but don't really want to erase them. Have just tried that WBLOCK but it doesn't seem to do anything other than save the selected block ( qty of ) as a new drawing. If I click on one of the blocks and freeze or erase then everything in the layer goes - IE more than just the same block. The layer that has the 2 required blocks we wish to `freeze` also has a third on it and it is all 3 that seem to freeze. I can delete the blocks using quick select, perhaps that is what we will just have to do?

Make a second copy of the drawing and erase everything BUT the blocks you want to retain for the future.

In the original drawing do just the opposite.

End result: one drawing without the blocks and one drawing with just the blocks.

Qselect the blocks, place them on the same layer, freeze the layer.

P.S. I use the WBLOCK method as described by ReMark.

Remark, doesn't that do the exact same as wblock? Just more work imo. I.e. select blocks wblock to new dwg, erase previous.

To the OP: if you want to return the blocks back into the original dwg, use insert, browse to the dwg you wblock'ed previously, check the explode option and place at 0,0,0. You should then have them back in their old positions on their old layers.

Otherwise, as SLW's explained, after qselect first change them to another layer (could be a new layer you've created for just this purpose ). Then you can easily freeze / thaw at your leisure!
