Drawing tablet?

Recommended Posts

Anyone know how well drawing tablets work with AutoCAD? I run 2010 at work, but RUN Architecture 2011 at home. Just kinda curious. Would like to see if anyone has any experience with one and how well they work.

Tablets have been around with Autocad since year dot before toolbars came along a tablet was the best way to get lots of menus in one place. The mouse and toolbars basicly killed the tablet, their still usefull for tracing etc including up to A0 size tablets, you can buy tablets real cheap have one at home about $35 from Aldi's.

Use one? not currently

You'll have to be more specific:

- Tablet as in the recent hardware, the iPads and similar?

- Tablet like the bamboo pen and similar?

- Tablet as in a touchscreen attached to your regular pc?

Yeah, a digitizing tablet, I guess I am just hoping there is something out there that would help feel like I am drawing rather than using a mouse. I have brick laying hands, and hate using a mouse, especially since they are all so small.

I used a digitizing tablet for years until I finally packed my last one away because of a driver issue. I found it handy for picking my symbols for creating process piping and instrumentation drawings. It also came in handy for digitizing (electronically tracing) maps (I worked in the civil field for a while) and manufacturer cut sheets. It's also easier on the wrist as the tablet I used raised up at a slant and supported the underside of my wrist (no carpal tunnel syndrome).

sAny suggestions for a specific brand Mark? I do electrical and some plumbing, at work running 2010. Mostly drop in symbols and arcs (my favorite). Im tired of my hand cramping all the time and Iv just started my first new career/job a month ago.

I favored Calcomp but they were bought out by GTCO.

There is a stylus option by the way. Start with this link....http://www.logicgroup.com/E/GtcoDigitizer.htm?gclid=CLDzyfevjK4CFULd4Aods0al4w

just a bit of advice about the cheap tablet I bought has some advantages and disavantages.

Adv can be used by other software came with windows software quick pick to open other software and configure tablet.

Disadv it had a stylus only so double clicking a problem, hold and pan was not supported repeat left button etc so buy a tablet with a puck thay have extra buttons.
