Metric to Imperial /Imperial to Metric

Hi,

We have a menu at work - that was developed by some one who no works there, basically it has a drop down for selecting scale (has both imperial & metric scales) and once the scale is selected it sets a value and symbols are scaled accordingly when they are dropped in.

It works fine but sometimes we will get a couple of drawings where say its is an imperial drawing, so I select the imperial scale but when the symbol is inserted it is tiny , and I have to scale it up by 25.4 to make it actual size. So if its an 1/8th scale drawing I would usually choose 1/8th on the menu and work from there, but on certain drawings it doesnt work - so I choose the nearest metric scale 1:100 in this case and it works.

1. Why does this happen? I would like to know what variables controls whether a drawing is imperial or metric or is there even such a thing?

2. Im busy making a menu to improve my productivity, but a big part of my setup is setting the scale, how should I implement this so it works on all dwgs?

Thanks

The system variable MEASUREMENT is set at 1 for metric and 0 for imperial

I think its better to add a button to do all the changes you want

for example

-UNITES

INSUNITES

MEASUREMENT

... etc

What method do you use to determine if a drawing is Metric or Imperial? How are you determining the scale?

Well most of the time the drawings I get are dimensioned to a specific unit so its not so hard to figure out, sometimes I sometimes I measure a known distance like a door or parking space and can figure out from there what the units are.

Is there a clear cut way of telling whether a dwg is imperial or metric without having to figure out?

If I were to create a library of symbols (a dwg for each symbol) what kind of template should these symbols be in (Metric/Imperial)? So that once I set the scale they symbols are the right scale without having to scale up or down to the right size?
