I am attempting to teach myself AutoLisp. I am going through the tutorials on AfraLisp and am having trouble save a routine. I am told to

"Now, save this file as "testline.lsp" remembering, to save it as a ASCII Text file and ensuring that it is saved in a directory in your AutoCAD's search path. Now open AutoCAD and type this :"

I am not sure what a ASCII text file is and is not in my drop down menu on notepad.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

ASCII file is just what "text" file - it contains letters, numbers, punctuation marks and carriage returns. For Notepad just select the *.TXT option.

I suggest you to use the VisualLISP editor that come with AutoCAD instead of Notepad since there you will have access to better functionalities.

Set the 'Save as Type' box to 'All Files', with 'Encoding' set to 'ANSI'; ensure the filename has a '.lsp' extension:

In Windows environment, also you can load a lsp file by dragging it in the drawing area.
