Removing printed message

Recommended Posts

Posted

I copy and pasted details from a survey drawing into my current model. A message came on screen that warned that any printed output would display the message PRODUCED BY AN AUTOCAD EDUCATIONAL PRODUCT.

I continued thinking that I would be able to purge any blocks later. I am not able to clean the drawing and any copies are printed with the message. I have tried WBLOCK and it still remains.

That stamp shows up because the drawing was created with and Educational version of the program, and such a version should never be used to commercial purposes.

If you got the survey drawing from another source, ask for a legitimate drawing.

Tiger,

I wish that I had done this in the beginning! However I copy and pasted information from that drawing into my model. Any part of that drawing carries the message. I have purged all layers associated with the insert, yet still have the message on prints. I need to remove this message somehow as re-creating the model is a huge task.

That behavior of the Edu-stamp is to prevent people from using Edu-version in commercial assignments. This is against the EULA.

I recommend you to do a search for solutions to your problem.

AutoDesk does warn people that by using content from the educational version in other (i.e. - commercial version) drawings will subsequently cause the educational banner to now appear in those drawings as well.

Your search should focus on the DXFOUT command.

You could try to locate an older version that was saved before the EDU content was added, and start again from there. I believe you can also send the drawing to Autodesk for removal of the EDU plotstamp but I'm pretty sure they will only assist if you convince them that all the content created with their free EDU software has since been removed from the drawing.

My personal opinion is that AutoDesk would just kick the ball back to the OP and tell him/her to contact their local authorized reseller. I believe they have the necessary tools to remove the EDU plot stamp. Just be prepared for some tough questions. AutoDesk doesn't take kindly to this type of misuse. You better be really convincing.

... and probable they will help you only once!

Chrissyb, until you get your dwg cleaned, be very careful; anything copied from that drawing (a line, a point, a style...) will cause that stamp to propagate. Consider it like a virus!

The best and safest thing you can do is to pull the edu drawing up on one monitor, a clean fresh drawing on the other monitor and redraw it from scratch. Don't copy and paste, xref or insert anything from the edu drawing. Once completed, delete the edu drawing from your system, along with any bak or tmp files with the same name. Do this on any redundant drives or backups you may have.

After you've done this, back charge whoever sent you the edu drawing in the first place for the time spent fixing this mess. If they send you edu drawings again, call autodesk and see if there is a bounty for reporting these guys.
