Hi all, I'm pretty new to Civil 3D and CAD in general.

I'm having a weird problem where all of the feature lines that have an elevation assigned to them other than 0 (contours) are offset from the rest of my lines in the drawing. Easy fix right? Grab all countours and move back to a point of reference. Not quite.

When I move them back it automatically assigns them an elevation that I am guessing is in respect to my other lines (building, curb and gutter, etc.). The elevations end up being anywhere from -25 to 22. When I go into the contour after it has been moved and assign it it's correct elevation, AutoCAD automatically moves the contour back to its original (incorrect position). This is happening not only to my proposed contours but my existing contours which are nested in a survey drawing and xreferenced into the current one. So basically it is happening to all of my lines which have an elevation assigned to them.

My best guess is somehow I have manipulated the way which I am viewing the plans (not the normal x-y plane plan view, but something else.).

Has anyone else ever experienced this?

This may or may not help. I sometimes have trouble with objects, usually lines. I convert one to a polyline, for use as a contour, but when I give it an elevation it disappears. Once I undo and explode, I find the line is not level, that is, the two ends have different Z values. It's not a matter of the UCS being out of world, it's a matter of the object being noncoplanar on its own.
