Problems with MAPIINSERT and MRSID images

Recommended Posts

I hope someone can give me some direction I have 15 MRSID images for a project in New Mexico. When I use FDO connect I have to edit the coordinate system and tell it that they are LL84 (WGS 84 Lat & Long). They come in fine. Problems start when I try to use MAPIINSERT. When using MAPIINSERT they come in at 32,-104 and tiny. How can I get MAPIINSERT to use the Lat & Long coordinates and not inches, feet, meters, kilometers, miles etc.?

This is in C3D 2012 64 bit.

I've tried converting the MRSIDS to GeoTIFF and I have the same problem with the world file importing the image at 32,-104 coordinates.

Any help is appreciated!

Is your dwg in the Lat/Lon (LL84) coordinate system? The thing with FDO data connect is it will reproject the images to meet your dwg coordinate system, where as with the Mapiinsert there is no reprojection of the coordinates.

If you need to use the mapiinsert you need to set the dwg coordinate system the same as the image. A work around if you have mixxed CS is use a blank dwg and set the CS to match the image, insert the image and save that dwg. Then in your project dwg use the map attach tools to attach that image dwg and query in all.

I did try mapiinsert with a new drawing with the CS set to LL84. The problem arose that the mapiinsert command asks what format the world file is set to: mm, cm, m, km, in, ft, yds or miles. My world files are set to decimal degrees of lat/long and not any of the listed linear measurements so my images are inserted at -103x, 32x where x is mm, cm, m, km, in, ft, yds or miles so when I insert that LL84 dwg into my NAD83 NM East US FT dwg it inserts at the bogus -103, 32 coords even though they are different coordinate dwgs. I think I may have to go back to the source of the images and ask for them in a different CS.

Thanks for the quick response.

When you have a SID or another georeferenced file and use the IMAGE FILE as the correlation source you do not need to select anything, it defaults to the correct units. The opiton to change is there if you choose image default and select the insertion point, scale, etc. used if the image is not georeferenced.

Also do not use the INSERT command or even Xref the image dwg if you have diufferent coordinate systems. Use the MAP ATTACH and Query tools. Look at the ADEDRAWINGS command.
