Point Group Problems

I am a student working on my senior project, and I'm having issues with point groups using Civil 3D 2011. I have an existing ground surface, and I want to place a surface on top of it using manually added points. The problem is when I defined the point groups for my EG surface I selected "all points" so now when I create new points for this overlayed surface it changes the contours for my EG surface. Any help is greatly appreciated! All I need to do is separate these new points from the EG surface. Any ideas??

Does ungrouping them, in your right click shortcut menu help?

It wont let me right click on any particular point or point group, clicking on any points selects the entire EG surface. If I add in the points I need, put them into a separate point group, and then delete them from the EG surface definition would that maybe do it? Or since that is "all points" would it just delete them entirely?

Sorry I don't use Civil 3D, but perhaps you can undo to the point where you made that entity, and proceed anew, you could copy those defining points and move them out of the way by a know distance for subsequent use.

Not sure if this will work. Can you filter out the new points, say, by point number or description? Put them in a separate group and delete it from the existing surface. Then create a new surface with that group. If that doesn't work, you might be able to move those points to a separate drawing, create the new surface there, and paste it back into the original drawing.
