Bogbadbob658 Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 Can someone tell me what Vanilla AutoCAD is? I've noticed it coming up in posts but have no idea what it is. Quote
ReMark Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 Plain old AutoCAD without any enhancements. Straight out of the box. Quote
Dadgad Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 Vanilla meaning PLAIN, not flavored or added to, like one of the Vertical Products. Yes, I know Vanilla is a flavor, one of my favorites. Quote
ReMark Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 Some use the word "generic" in place of vanilla. I prefer peppermint AutoCAD myself. Quote
rkmcswain Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 FYI: Because there are products like "AutoCAD Civil 3D", "AutoCAD Electrical", "AutoCAD Architecture", and "AutoCAD P&ID". These are built on top of AutoCAD, and they contain all of the functionality of AutoCAD, but with more features. Quote
samifox Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 what Vanilla flavor has to do with natural autocad? Quote
ReMark Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 It is not a flavor. Look up the definition of "vanilla" and you see this included... ...having no special or extra features; ordinary or standard. Now do you understand how the word is being used in reference to AutoCAD versus a vertical product built on top of AutoCAD? Quote

nukecad Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 The term is originally derived from ice-cream believe it or not. 'Plain' (or standard) ice cream is vanilla flavoured. So plain (or standard) versions of software became known as the "vanilla version" Quote
