i decided to use a spline path instead of bend modifier. Now im having trouble removing the spline path without the object reverting to its original state.....how to i collapse the stack back to editable mesh/poly without losing the new shape created with the path?

nevermind i just figured out if i right mouse click on the modifier in the stack and choose collapse to and accept the warning it removes the path and keeps the deform intact

I'm not sure why you need to go to all that trouble. The Bend modifier should work just fine. Can you post an image of the cylinder before you applied the modifier?

:bloodshot: Wow, that's a tiny image. Got anything bigger?

The Bend modifier is easy. Just apply it and then bend the object. I'm not sure why your cylinder is not bending though?

it appears to me the problem is the object is not being allowed to move very far along the x axis or any axis cause if i change direction i get the same result....is there an axis setting? like maybe it needs to be set to a certain percentage but mine is set very low not allowing the object to bend very far....It is bending but not in a predictable or useful way

what i tried was to move the axis to the center of the cylinder but that did nothing until I scaled the gizmo on the x axis....now this achieved the bend I was trying to get BUT if i was intending on animating the cylinder, such as a fishing pole (I saw this in a tutorial on bend modifier), this would never do. I cannot animate this correctly bending it this way. http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb447/Rik612/bend_modify2b.jpg

Sorry, but I've tried everything I can think of to duplicate what you're experiencing but I just can't. The Bend modifier works every time I try it. :?

Have you tried opening a new file and starting over with a new cylinder? Sometimes Max files get corrupted and starting over with a fresh new file can get you back on track.

I would ask you to post your file but you're using 2012 and I'm on 2011 here at home, so I wouldn't be able to open your file.

I decided to go to Autodesk and check for updates. Downloaded and installed sp2 for max and now it behaves correctly...bend modifier is working...yayyyyy!!!
