I am not sure what is so special about a ceiling hatch, but if you want a simple square grid hatch, then have you tried the NET predefined hatch pattern? The distance between lines is adjustable with the scale factor.

Thank you for the reply. - sorry I am new to this stuff, can you tell me what is and where do I find the NET hatch pattern. A ceiling grid is a frame 24 mm wide with tiles sitting in each 600 x 600 hols that the frame creates. Once again thank you.

I don't mean to sound flip, but could you not have drawn the required grid in the time that has elapsed? You can't manipulate a hatch patern well enough to actually use it for a ceiling grid anyway. There are no snaps to the internal lines of a hatch, and it is nearly impossible to align a hatch pattern to anything other than making it fit into a boundary.

:) you are of course correct - But i am new and self-taught with CAD, therefore one failure has me turning other stones. I think that I will be drawing the inside of commercial buildings for a little while yet, do your have any suggestions of where to find other building related files? Thank you for your interest.

If you scrolled down this page to look at "Similar threads", there is a very good tip at this thread

Set the SNAPBASE to the centre of the room and the grid is evenly aligned to the edges. AND all hatch line intersections respond to the OSNAP Intersection.

Just go and find out about the HATCH command. :D

That is a nice link there Eldon, certainly hope that the OP follows it.

Thank you. - one other small Q if I may - when I alter the angle of the ucs for a part of a building that runs at an angle to the rest, I find that when I copy and paste the paste object appears about 30 miles due south of the screen.... Even tempted to look under the table sometimes:? , is there an easy way to fix this?

Either pick right on the object you are copying using your OSNAPS or use the Copy with Base Point option. Sounds like your pick point was either way off the object or you defaulted to a base point of 0,0.

I'll have to check this out myself. Apparently I have missed something.

Ta - will try that

Try this, 595x8=4760. hatch the room and change the hatch origin to the center of the room and change the scale of the hatch to 4760.

Have a nice day :)

I forgot to explain how did i get the multiplier 8. If you try to make a net hatch 595, the actual net hatch measurement will be 8 times smaller in the scale you provide for the hatch. so, to get the exact measurement, you need to multiply 595 to 8 times and then use the result in the hatch scale.
