Pexzor Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 Hello peeps I have started learning 3ds max a month ago and in few cases now I've been having problems with rendering some objects. After the render they become see trough. For example here: I have made 2 dents with 2 different radius spheres in to the object on the right then I made a copy on the left, took those inner polygons and extruded up. Then I tweaked it a bit more by extruding some parts a bit more upwards to get this object. But then when I render it I get this. Does anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong or how to make it render properly? Quote
Cad64 Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Well, first of all, you have some really bad geometry happening there. You need to clean up your model. You have a lot of extra edges which are creating Triangles and Ngons. Ideally you want all Quads. This is probably not the reason for the problem you are experiencing, but you really should start practicing good modeling habits. A clean model is going to be easier to work with, accept smoothing modifiers better and render better than a sloppy model with bad geometry. Also, models with bad geometry can cause Max to become unstable and crash. Now, where is the render? All I see are a couple of screenshots. You mentioned something about objects becoming see through after rendering? Quote
Pexzor Posted April 18, 2012 Author Posted April 18, 2012 Well render is on the 3rd picture on the right side, that black screen with objects. Do you see how object on the left is see trough. And by the way can you direct me to a tutorial where I can learn how to clean up the models, and all that you mentioned. Well, first of all, you have some really bad geometry happening there. Cad64 Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Hmmmmm, Ok, the 3rd picture was not there when I was here earlier. There were only 2 images. That's weird. Anyway, the reason the objects appear see through in the render is because your polygons are flipped. What you need to do is select all the polygons in your model and click the "Flip" button Quote
Pexzor Posted April 18, 2012 Author Posted April 18, 2012 Haaa amazing, that worked like a charm. Thank you allot. I'm gonna work on more clean modelling, could you suggest any tutorials that can help me with that ? Quote
Raudel Solis Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 have fun with these, they should help http://www.polygonblog.com/ Quote
Cad64 Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 can you direct me to a tutorial where I can learn how to clean up the models, and all that you mentioned. The internet is full of Studio Max tutorials. I don't know of any specific ones, but take a look at the links I have posted here: http://www.cadtutor.net/forum/showthread.php?29434-***Free-Max-Tutorials***. I'm sure you will find some that will help. Quote
Raudel Solis Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 could you suggest any tutorials that can help me with that ? the simplest way to optimize a model is to add a pro optimizer modifier and change the VERTEX Percent value, usually depending on the model a 25% percent will leave the model looking acceptable, once i got the model polygon count reduced to a number i like that gives good quality and performance, i usually add a turbo smooth modfier.
